Evaluation: Magazine Conventions: Contents Style

Evaluation: Technology's Lessons

This is the first time I have ever used Blogger other than to put pictures up onto the internet.
I have enjoyed experimenting with different medias and the way they can be displayed on the blog. I have played around with banners, templates, backgrounds, pictures, videos, fonts and colours. Some things worked well. Others did not. I have learned that the things that aren't used can still be of use.

Photoshop allowed experimentation same as before but this time, I got to adjust how things appeared to see if I was happy with them going on the blog.

It took some getting used to but in the end, I found it worthwhile as it gave me a front cover that I was happy with and got all that I wanted to get across.

InDesign was interesting as it required close measurements for the layout of my contents. My flatplan gave me these numbers beforehand so I didn't have trouble with this.

It was relatively similar to Photoshop but this relied more on text compared to images.

Evaluation: Appealing and Representing For My Audience with Cover and Contents

I took my cover photo with the idea that I wanted to appeal to the playful nature and relaxed feel that I believe my readers could relate to. I edited the picture to make the colours bold but not to brash. I asked my model to smile to fight the convention of a serious expression displayed on most magazines. The other images also are there to give off this happy positive atmosphere as I wanted my magazine to inform and entertain in a way that made my readers feel good rather than critiqued and sad.

I kept all my content and stories relevant to my survey results to keep it looking like a college-produced magazine rather than having it blend into a generic magazine. I was true to all layout conventions so that it was still recognisable as a magazine rather than any other form of media.

I used my colours and fonts as they are not gender specific. Perhaps the pink could be seen as feminine but I felt the yellow would level it out. The variety of fonts were used to give off that not every youth is the same and we should be seen as individuals.

I used links to social media as I know from everyday life, these sites are widely recognisable for my generation and are a successful form of communication.

InDesign Session!

Just like with Photoshop, InDesign needs some trying out.
